Biography

Professional Career

Beginning his professional journey on April 22, 2001, with a unanimous decision victory over Alejandro Cruz, Guerrero quickly established himself as a fighter to watch. Over the years, his career has been a blend of impressive wins, challenging losses, and memorable comebacks.

Guerrero’s rise was marked early by winning the NABF featherweight title from Cesar Figueroa in December 2004, showcasing his prowess by ending the fight in the fourth round. His ability to perform under pressure was further demonstrated when he captured the IBF featherweight title in February 2007, defeating Spend Abazi. Guerrero’s career continued to flourish as he moved up in weight classes, capturing titles in the super featherweight and lightweight divisions, including memorable wins over Michael Katsidis in April 2011 for the WBA and WBO interim lightweight titles.

However, Guerrero also faced setbacks, such as his loss to Gamaliel Diaz in 2005 and more prominent defeats against elite fighters like Floyd Mayweather Jr. in May 2013 and Keith Thurman in March 2015. These matches were crucial learning experiences for Guerrero, testing his resilience and adaptability in the ring.

Despite these challenges, Guerrero’s career was characterized by his ability to rebound. Notably, in 2012, he won the WBC interim welterweight title by defeating Andre Berto in a fiercely contested bout, proving his tenacity and skill at higher weight classes. His career, however, was not without its ups and downs, as seen in subsequent losses to fighters like Danny García and David Emanuel Peralta. In his later years, Guerrero continued to compete at a high level. His victory over Victor Ortiz in August 2021 was a testament to his enduring skill and determination. He followed this up with another win against Andre Berto in December 2023
