Teofimo Lopez has walked away from the 140-pound division, declining an IBF order to fight for their vacant championship in favor of a permanent move to the 147-pound welterweight division.

Lopez allowed the IBF’s deadline to pass without accepting a fight against the number-one contender Lindolfo Delgado. The move confirms that “The Takeover” is prioritizing commercial bouts over collecting belts. With Lopez out of the picture, the IBF has quickly moved to fill the void left by Richardson Hitchins, who recently vacated the belt to join Zuffa Boxing.

The IBF is now expected to order Lindolfo Delgado to face Arthur Biyarslanov for the vacant junior welterweight title. Biyarslanov jumped to the top of the list after his seventh-round stoppage of Jimerr Espinosa and win over former champion Sergey Lipinets earlier this year.

At welterweight, he enters a pool of massive commercial targets including Ryan Garcia, Conor Benn, and potentially a fight with Devin Haney. Despite his wide decision loss to Shakur Stevenson in January, Lopez remains one of the sport’s big names. Rumors of an August clash with Ryan Garcia have intensified following this move. With Garcia’s talks with Conor Benn currently stalled, a “Lopez vs. Garcia” bout could happen.
