Liz Carmouche vs. Viviane Araujo set for PFL San Diego co-main
Liz Carmouche will face Viviane Araujo in a women’s flyweight bout at PFL San Diego on June 27, the promotion confirmed Wednesday. The matchup pairs two former UFC flyweights ranked second and ninth respectively in the PFL’s 125-pound division.
Carmouche, 42, swept the PFL flyweight tournament in 2025 with three straight wins including finishes of Ilara Joanne and Jena Bishop, per MMA Fighting. The San Diego native sits 12-1 since leaving the UFC in 2019 and has held gold previously in Bellator. Her only PFL loss came via decision to Taila Santos in 2024.
Araujo rebounding after inconsistent UFC run
Araujo earned her first PFL victory earlier this month, taking a decision over Shanna Young at PFL Chicago in April. The Brazilian went 7-6 with the UFC before signing with the PFL, alternating wins over Karine Silva, Jennifer Maia and Andrea Lee with losses to Tracy Cortez, Natalia Silva and Alexa Grasso, according to Sherdog.
The bout could determine the next challenger for undefeated champion Dakota Ditcheva, who recently returned from a hand injury and is awaiting her next assignment. PFL noted in a release that “a win can elevate either fighter into the title conversation and bring them within reach of a championship opportunity.”
PFL San Diego takes place at Pechanga Arena with A.J. McKee facing Salamat Isbulaev in the main event. The ESPN 2 broadcast begins at 10 p.m. ET with prelims streaming on the ESPN app at 7 p.m. ET.
